Offshore

ClearShield® is not only proven on cruise liners and other marine vessels but also on offshore installations too!

For glass surfaces on offshore installations:

  • Makes cleaning much easier and reduces its frequency
Always much easier to clean – typically reducing frequency of cleaning reduced by 50-80%

  • Resists contamination and staining by seawater deposits, metal oxides, mud and engine exhaust
Sparkling appearance – cleaner image – looks cleaner and newer for longer

  • Enhances visibility for crew
Better views – increased crew satisfaction – reduced complaints – improved safety

  • Application
Applied prior to installation or offshore – treatment can be easily integrated with normal maintenance schedules

ClearShield® protection is recommended for all kinds of external and internal glass surfaces found in offshore installations such as driller cabins, living quarters, shaker rooms, even camera lenses. Exterior glass is exposed to harsh conditions, and typical sources of contamination include mud, alkalinity from seawater and atmospheric moisture corrosion and pollution. Over time, contamination build-up on the glass surface affects its appearance and visibility – and safety. Effective cleaning is difficult, if not impossible, and glass replacement can be too costly in terms of both time and money.

Glass Renovation

Glass already contaminated is renovated using our specialist products, fitting in with normal operating and maintenance schedules. This process removes all contaminants that have not yet etched the glass during the corrosion process. The surface is restored to a pristine ‘as-new’ appearance, ready for the application of ClearShield® to upgrading to ClearShield Eco-Glass®.

Offshore Case Studies

Ekofisk

Ekofisk 2/4 X ‘EkoX’

This platform is part of the Ekofisk oil field complex. Ekofisk was Norway's first producing field and is also one of the largest on the Norwegian continental shelf. It produces both oil and gas, and production started in 1971.

Ekofisk 2/4 X is a drilling and production platform. Aggressive chemicals and pollution heavily stained the glass in the drilling area. Conventional cleaning methods were used to try and solve the problem, but without success. The ClearShield System® was specified to renovate and protect the driller’s cabin, shaker and video camera, restoring the glass to an ‘as-new’ appearance.

Sleipner A

Sleipner A

Sleipner A is a combined accommodations, production and processing offshore platform at the Sleipner East gas field in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea. This oil platform was built by the company Norwegian Contractors for Statoil, a multinational energy company, now known as Equinor.

Glass in the driller cabin, knuckleboom crane, derrick, shaker room and camera lenses were all renovated and protected with ClearShield®. For the driller cabin, apart from increasing visibility for the driller operator, ClearShield® has also saved significant money from downtime for temporarily stopping operations to clean the glass to an acceptable level.
